Megan Love

July 1, 2004 - Rock N Roll DJ Megan Love was nice enough to do an interview with us this month. She works for Rock 92.3 out of Jackson, TN. You can find more out about her by visiting the Rock 92.3 website and the July issue of Maxim magazine.

1. How did you become a DJ? Was it a longtime goal of yours?

Yes, actually, being a DJ was something I had wanted to do since I was a little girl. I used to tape myself talking, and constantly repeat the call letters of the local radio stations. No, I really did!!! So, when I got to college, I majored in communications, and started doing part-time work at local radio stations to gain experience. And last year, when I was doing a promotion for a race car company at a car wash, of all places, Rock 92.3 was doing a live broadcast and I ended up talking to the PD and he asked me to try for the mid day spot that had opened up not too long before. So I went the next day, and somehow got the job! And life has been much cooler ever since!

2. Since you work for a Rock station, what are your 5 favorite Rock & Roll bands?

Let's see, I am a HUGE Pink Floyd fan!!! Love them! And as for the other four, Skynyrd, The Who, Aerosmith, and the Stones.

3. Where do you see your career going? Do you have plans to try other things such as acting?

To be honest, I love what I do! I could do this for a long time. I love the music, and of course, the interaction between the listeners! It's great, to be able to make an impact by doing what I love. So, if I can continue to grow through this profession, that would be ideal. But I also love to sing. I sing lead in a rock band. The Remains - (the Rock 92.3 House Band) - and it is something that I love to do as well. Just rocking out on stage, all sweaty and stuff! It's all about the music!

4. Besides being a kick ass DJ, what other things do you excel at?

I am an avid equestrian (horseback rider) and I compete on the horse show circuit. I have 8 horses and they are my babies!!! I can also dance on the bar without falling off- I found that out in Cancun, as well as the ability to drink a lot of tequila without falling over. Haha. I am a really good partier. There ya go! That's it! I excel at partying!!!

5. I noticed that Jackson is not far from Memphis or Nashville, which city do you prefer? Why?

Memphis, because it's a bit closer, and more influenced by rock. Beale Street in the Summer is great! And there are some great concerts there too, so I would definitely have to say that Memphis is my preferred city.

6. When you're not blasting the airwaves with Rock music, what do you like too do for fun?

I will either go to my family's farm in Henderson, chill in the hot tub and ride horses, or I kick it with my friends either partying or playing sports such as soccer and tennis. Sometimes I just like to chill out and watch stupid movies. Oh! My roommate and I do a killer drunken kareoke version of Bohemian Rhapsody!

7. Since we are a Jimmy Buffett site, we have a few questions about him for you. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the name Jimmy Buffett?

Margaritaville, baby!!!!

8. Have you ever seen a concert of Jimmy Buffett? If so tell us about it.

Unfortunately, I have not!!! Don't kill me!!! I would absolutely love to though!!! I'm a big fan of Jimmy Buffett. It's great music to chill out and drink to.

9. A friend of mine heard you on the radio and said you would be a great candidate for an interview, and while I was putting it together we then see you in Maxim. How has things changed for you since being in the magazine?

Well, the magazine has not been out very long, but it seems that everyone has seen it already!!! It's funny to think that so many people have seen me in my underwear!!! I get pounded for autographs sometimes. It's pretty funny! And, of course, the job offers are cool too.

10. One final question and this for our friend Captain Granite, who do you prefer with Van Halen, Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth? Why?

Ohhh, that's a tough one! Although flamboyant and obnoxious as he may be, I prefer David Lee Roth. He just had so much energy and stage presence. Very rock and roll. Nothing against the Red Rocker, he's great too, but I am a fan of David Lee. I just like the energy and spark that he displayed in his performances. When I think of Van Halen, I think of David Lee Roth.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions Megan. We will certainly let you know when Jimmy Buffett is in your area, I think you would really enjoy one of his concerts. Good luck with everything!
