This week on Time After Island Time: Mighty
Sparrow Part II
The Calypso King of the World, with special
guest the Mighty Sparrow on the Time After Island Time show.
Produced by Paul Leslie, Jeff Pike and
Heather Dee Perry.
We welcome back the bird with the word, the Calypso King of the World, the Mighty
Sparrow to Time After Island Time. Calypso music is something that people may
mistake as simple, happy songs, but as we hear in the Mighty Sparrow's words,
it can have a message, and ever the bard, his songs are poetic. The Mighty Sparrow
has a reputation for writing songs that are witty, saucy and ribald. He talks
about many of the songs that propeled him to being the number one Calypso artist
of all times. The Mighty Sparrow told us about his life and times, meeting and
performing with some of the greatest Calypsonians ever. He shares with us his
upbringing and tells us about his relationship with Harry Belafonte. Belafonte,
although not a Calypsonian covered the Sparrow's music.
There is a reason the Mighty Sparrow is called the Calypso King of the World,
and as we hear his story and look at his music, you will understand why. Tune
into Time After Island Time from anywhere in the world via Radio JimmyDreamz.
